    Desde su finalización, el hotel ha sido objeto de varias ampliaciones y renovaciones importantes dirigidas por varios arquitectos y estudios de arquitectura diferentes. William Sutherland Maxwell dirigió dos grandes expansiones del hotel, una en 1908–09 y otra en 1920–24 (codirigida con su hermano, Edward Maxwell).

    Las renovaciones arquitectónicas en la década de 1990 fueron dirigidas por Arcop, una firma de arquitectos con sede en Montreal. El hotel fue ampliado nuevamente en 1993, con la adición de una nueva ala.

    En 2011, el hotel fue vendido a Ivanhoé Cambridge. The current Fairmont Hôtel and Resorts Château Frontenac building, popularly known as Château Frontenac, designed by architect Bruce Price (sponsored by the Canadian Pacific Railway), opened its doors in 1893. In 1985, it was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with Quebec City's historic centre, and is now considered "the most photographed hotel in the world". What are the architectural reasons for its success?

The privileged position of this place, next to the city walls, with a privileged view of the Saint Laurent River, marks an urban landmark in the Quebec landscape.
